School of Chemistry
The School of Chemistry is situated in the Main Building (shown above) of Cardiff University.
The School has a long and continued tradition with Electron Spin Resonance dating back to the
late 1960's, when the ESR group of the RSC was formally established at a meeting in the
Chemistry Department in 1968.
Cardiff Capital City
Cardiff is well established as "Europe's Youngest Capital", since being proclaimed the capital
city of Wales in 1955, but its history dates back more than 2000 years to the Romans. It was once
one of the busiest ports in the world, exporting the coal which fuelled the industrial revolution
of the British Empire . The Tiger Bay docklands have recently been transformed into the
Cardiff Bay area, home to shops, bars and cafes.
Cardiff is a lively, cosmopolitan city and offers everything from the
excitement of vibrant city life to the peace and tranquillity of the nearby coast and countryside.
It is home to many national institutions including the National Museum of Wales, the National
Assembly for Wales and, of course, the much-admired Millennium Stadium.
