City of Manchester

Manchester started life as a Roman settlement, but turned into the world's first great industrial city during the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries, even being the site of the world's first railway station. It has a proud history in science and technology, the famous firsts including splitting of the atom and creation of the first programmable computer. Manchester has undergone a great deal of redevelopment over the last couple of decades and is now the 3rd most popular tourist city in the UK.
