Bruker Prize Lecture 2025
Since 1986 Bruker BioSpin has generously sponsored an annual lectureship and prize, given to a scientist who has made a major contribution to the application of ESR spectroscopy in chemical or biological systems. The RSC ESR Spectroscopy Group and Bruker are excited to announce the Bruker lecturer 2025 Professor Stephen Hill for,
his seminal contributions to EPR in terms of both world-leading and unique instrument design as well imaginative and expert application of high field EPR to the study of low dimensional systems. His work has opened up new avenues for EPR driven developments including in, but not limited to, the fields of quantum information science and the study of polymetallic transition metal complexes. Crucially, as Director of the Electron Magnetic Resonance user program at the NHMFL he has supported and fostered the international and national EPR communities with unique scientific expertise and admirable dedication.
The 2025 Bruker lecture is the 40th Anniversary of this prestigious prize, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone and Stephen’s achievement at our London conference in spring 2025. Bruker Thesis Prize 2025
The ESR Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Bruker Corporation are pleased to announce the winner of the 11th Bruker ESR Thesis Prize is Dr Yujie Zhao. As winner of the 2025 competition, Dr Zhao has accepted an invitation to give a prize lecture at the 58th Annual International Meeting of the RSC ESR spectroscopy group, in London, 1st to 5th June 2025.
Dr Yujie Zhao completed her doctoral thesis, titled “Methodology development of high sensitivity pulsed EPR and DNP”, in the mm-Wave and EPR group at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, under the supervision of Prof. Graham Smith. Our international judging panel were impressed with the breadth of the thesis, spanning both EPR and DNP investigations. One reviewer described the work as:
an excellent example of a thorough investigation of DNP and ENDOR using high frequency EPR with timely and relevant insights and conclusions for both EPR and solid-state DNP NMR from the design and building of hardware, experimental implementation, theory, simulation and experiment and application to a contemporary research area
Meanwhile another expert external reviewer praised the significant hardware developments reported in the thesis, which “pushed the boundary of pulsed W-band DNP through extraordinary instrumentation capabilities”. We look forward to hearing about this work in the thesis prize lecture which will take place on Tuesday 3rd June 2025.
